welocalize to be founding member of TAUS data association
Vice President nominated to Supervisory Board
Frederick, Maryland, USA – May 21, 2008 – Welocalize, Inc., a leading provider of integrated globalization services, will become a Founding Member of the new TAUS Data Association, a member-owned platform for sharing language data, set to be incorporated on June 30, 2008. Willem Stoeller, Welocalize Vice President, has been nominated to the Supervisory Board, along with representatives from Microsoft, Intel, Sun Microsystems, Adobe, and the Canadian Government Translation Bureau.
The objectives of the TAUS Data Association are three-fold: establish a legitimate and secure platform for storing, sharing and leveraging data; provide access to large volumes of trusted language data for increased translation automation; and stimulate industry collaboration to promote harmonization of multilingual terminology.
Jaap van der Meer, director designate of TAUS, explains: “This non-profit organization is based on the principle of reciprocity, where members submit 25% of their own translation memories and have access to a common pool of data that can be used to increase efficiency and quality of services and solutions. By raising the bar for sharing language data, we provide clear benefits to clients and service providers alike: reduced translation costs, shorter time-to-market, product innovation, increased end-user satisfaction and market growth.”
Welocalize is one of the Founding Members of TAUS. Mr. Stoeller has been involved in the TAUS Community since 2006. “The TAUS Community Forum has been successful in driving innovation and automation in the translation industry. I am thrilled that we have graduated to a more legitimate platform for sharing language data on a global scale, and I am honored to be part of this open initiative,” says Mr. Stoeller.
In total 42 organizations in the existing TAUS community have already confirmed their intention to join the Association as Founding Members. The operation will start in July of this year. A General Meeting of all Founding Members will be scheduled where the Supervisory Board will be confirmed through an election.
“The exciting buzz that the TAUS Data Association has created is a reflection of a simple fact: the translation industry is on the verge of a necessary transformation in order to meet the growing demand for translated content in a more responsive and innovative way. Welocalize is excited to be one of the leaders in this change and to be collaborating with such distinguished clients and thought leaders ,” says Smith Yewell, CEO of Welocalize.
