welocalize reaches 132 downloads in first week
132 application downloads, 828 downloads of all materials and 388 enrolled community members
Frederick, Maryland USA – January 12, 2009 – After its first week on the market as an open-source product, the GlobalSight 7.1 Translation Management System (TMS) available on www.globalsight.com already has received over 130 public downloads. Released on January 5th, GlobalSight helps automate the critical tasks associated with the creation, translation, review, storage and management of business content and materials.
Downloadable at no charge, the open-source GlobalSight TMS provides a low-risk, flexible and sustainable globalization platform at a fraction of the cost of closed-source TMS products in the market. As of today, 388 professionals have registered to join the GlobalSight community, from corporate clients, Language Service Providers (LSPs), translators, technology providers, developers and more.
Out of the 132 individuals who have downloaded the GlobalSight 7.1 software package (available for Windows and Linux), a third have been LSPs (32%) and over a quarter corporate clients (28%). Other materials available for download on the website include the source code and supporting documentation for both users and developers, from getting-started and installation guides, to information on system requirements, 3rd-party components and web services API. The total download activity to date for all materials is 828.
“We are delighted to see such high levels of interest and activity in the very first week,” says Gary Prioste, VP of Technology Services at Welocalize. “Companies big and small are downloading the product for free and testing to see if it fits within their environment and business processes. The discussion forum on the website has provided a reliable platform for the community to post issues and FAQs and receive answers within 24 hours.”
GlobalSight is a collaborative, open source initiative to develop a flexible and sustainable Translation Management System (TMS) that leverages the best ideas and addresses the true needs of the industry. In this non-captive community, participants are free to discuss, discover and build upon a translation process automation tool that provides choice and flexibility—and can be shared by all.
