Frederick, Maryland USA – June 7, 2011 – The OpenTM2 Partnership Steering Committee announced today that Welocalize has added a number of interoperability improvements to the next version of the OpenTM2 workbench, release 0.9.5. OpenTM2 is the open source version of IBM’s Translation Manager/2, TM2. TM2 is a widely used enterprise-level translation workbench for professional translators.
Welocalize is working closely with the OpenTM2 Steering Committee to implement better XLIFF support, including the ability to leverage alternative translations included in “alt-trans” tags.
“We are excited to collaborate on this initiative and understand that it is important to continuously improve OpenTM2,” said Smith Yewell, CEO of Welocalize. “By providing translation tools in an open source environment, we will take our industry to the next level. We want to help translators utilize their workbench of choice with GlobalSight, as well as other translation management systems via XLIFF.”
“The Welocalize team members are invaluable to the OpenTM2 Steering Committee and they have provided some excellent input – they really get the whole open source concept and see the potential benefits to the industry,” said David Walters, Corporate Globalization Tool Development Manager at IBM. “The next release of OpenTM2 moves the product further towards total interoperability.”
The OpenTM2 partnership was formed in June 2010 and as well as Welocalize, other members include Cisco and Linux Solution Group (LiSoG). The objective of the partnership, driven by the Steering Committee, is to continually develop and improve the OpenTM2 workbench to enable interoperability and compatibility between translators and businesses, on an open platform.
It is expected that the 0.9.5 release of OpenTM2 will be available during summer 2011.
