LSPs Embrace GlobalSight With Over 500 Downloads
Open Source Initiative Gains Momentum
Frederick, Maryland, USA – November 23, 2009 – With the number of software downloads from globalsight.com by Language Service Providers (LSPs) now above the 500 mark, the GlobalSight Steering Committee has added two new members from the LSP community: Sultan Ghaznawi, YYZ Translations, and Phil Ritchie, VistaTEC. The Steering Committee has made this move based on their belief that the best technology solutions for the industry as a whole will result from closer collaboration between LSPs and client organizations on a shared and open translation management platform.
To highlight the LSP benefits in using GlobalSight, Sultan Ghaznawi, YYZ Translations, will host a GlobalSight Demo oriented specifically to the needs of LSPs on Tuesday, December 15th.Sultan states, “GlobalSight has brought in a lot of potential to our company, we have already seen results and our efforts have been paid off in less than a year of deployment. With no cost to purchase, minimum effort to start and operate, and excellent support from Welocalize – this is the ideal TMS package for any LSP and localization unit of any company. The industry has long suffered from proprietary stranglehold and GlobalSight is a revolutionary and long overdue change. We are also thrilled about unique features of this tool such as decoupling of TMS and the client, crowdsourcing, web based workbench, web services APIs and machine translation integration. This tool truly invites innovation in this space and it is a great platform for creating revenue generating supporting applications. We are proud to be associated with the GlobalSight community and are excited about what the future holds for this great solution.”
Phil Ritchie, the CTO of VistaTec goes on to say, “VistaTEC has always asserted its position of being agile, smart and independent in relation to the technologies it employs. Well-directed open source initiatives such as International Components for Unicode (ICU), the Okapi framework and MOSES have had high adoption within, and provided real value to the LSP community. I can foresee that with the combined strategic experience of the Steering Committee and the ingenuity of its growing development community that the GlobalSight platform will be just as successful.”
The longer term vision for the collaboration effort includes a more robust and scalable platform for the industry as a whole. The vision is called GlobalSight Editions where an instance of GlobalSight on the client side will be linked to an instance at the multi-language vendor (MLV) and then linked to an instance at the single language vendor (SLV). By unifying the entire supply chain on the same open platform, scalability, administration, speed, efficiency and reporting all become much stronger and easier.
