globalsight to provide automated matching & reuse of previously translated material in 2.5 billion word TAUS translation memory supercloud
Frederick, Maryland USA – May 10, 2010 – GlobalSight and the TAUS Data Association (TDA) today announced a major development to enable automated reuse of previously translated material in the TDA supercloud of industry-shared language data. This automated translation matching with the TDA translation memory repository, that is already at 2.5 billion words and growing, will provide a level of scalability, ease of use and optimal reuse of previously translated material not seen before in the translation industry. This exciting new functionality will be released to TDA members later this year.
The collaboration effort includes an expansion of the GlobalSight translation matching engine to handle the massive data volume and large-scale usage demanded by TDA’s members. The development also includes a TAUS Data Association integration layer ensuring that any translation memory software can be connected to the platform to take advantage of data matched using the GlobalSight engine. This effort will create the first open platform of its kind and scope in the translation industry. At the same time, GlobalSight will also be integrated with TDA for automated data upload and download to the translation supercloud through the click of a button.
As budgets are squeezed, and content volumes grow at a staggering rate, high quality remains a touch stone for paid translations. The industry is in need of new technological solutions to help translators and the wider industry scale to the increased demands of customers. Smith Yewell, CEO of Welocalize describes it this way, “I am especially pleased that the TAUS Data Association has chosen GlobalSight. This has created great synergy to connect with and improve the industry-owned TDA service offering in an open way and confirms our commitment to help the industry move on from silo-based ways of working. This effort creates an opportunity for all of us to collaborate and be more productive.”
Jaap van der Meer, Director, TAUS Data Association goes on to say, “As we complete a major public consultation on the TDA strategic roadmap, it’s great to be able to already confirm our readiness to deliver on one of the most sought after new features, translation matching. TDA’s open and secure platform for sharing translation memories is helping the industry to genuinely embrace open platforms for everyone’s benefit. TDA makes the API’s available for anyone to integrate its tools, platform or services.”
