globalsight & TAUS data association complete largest globalsight implementation on record & ground breaking TM matching
GlobalSight powers 2.7 billion word TAUS Translation Memory Super-Cloud Matching System
Frederick, Maryland USA – October 21, 2010 – In its largest scalability test to date, GlobalSight has proven capability to support the 2.7 billion word TAUS TM super-cloud as its underlying TM matching engine. The “Translation Matching” feature allows users to leverage the TDA translation memory repository directly via WebServices API, using XLIFF as the data exchange format. This feature provides a level of scalability, ease of use and optimal reuse of shared translated material not seen before at this scale in the translation industry. In addition, through the GlobalSight “Editions” feature, any install of GlobalSight can automatically point to the TAUS install of GlobalSight and check for TM matches in the TAUS TM super-cloud automatically.
Started in May of this year, the collaboration between GlobalSight and the TDA included an expansion of the GlobalSight translation matching engine to handle the massive data volume and large-scale usage demanded by TDA’s members. The development also includes a TAUS Data Association integration layer ensuring that any translation memory software can be connected to TDA to take advantage of data matched using the GlobalSight engine. This effort created the first open platform of its kind and scope in the translation industry. As part of this effort, GlobalSight has also added a “TDA Translation Memory” option to provide seamless integration to the TDA translation memory repository. As a result, through GlobalSight, users of the TDA translation memory will no longer have to download TMX files from TDA in order to use the data.
“TAUS is about more than just a TM super-cloud. It is about a new way of thinking and collaborating in our industry, and I am very happy to see GlobalSight at the heart of this new model,” said Smith Yewell, CEO of Welocalize. “This has created great synergy to connect with and improve the industry-owned TDA service offering in an open way and confirms our commitment to help the industry move on from silo-based ways of working. This effort creates an opportunity for all of us to collaborate and be more productive.”
Jaap van der Meer, Director, TAUS Data Association goes on to say, “I am pleased to see GlobalSight be able to support TM matching at such a large scale. TDA’s open and secure platform for sharing translation memories is helping the industry to genuinely embrace open platforms for everyone’s benefit. TDA makes the API’s available for anyone to integrate its tools, platform or services.”
