Translation memory and machine translation combination becomes easily accessible
Frederick, Maryland USA – June 2, 2010 – Welocalize is pleased to announce that it has developed an integrated connector between its open-source TMS product, GlobalSight and the Microsoft Translator machine translation engine.
“I am very pleased to see us be able to enhance the user experience through this easy-to-use integration between the GlobalSight platform and the Microsoft MT engine,” said Smith Yewell, CEO of Welocalize. “The combination of translation memory and machine translation is growing in importance, and this integration is something many users have been asking us to develop.”
The connector allows customers to control the features of the Microsoft Translator engine after the local translation memories have been leveraged. This creates an output that can be post-edited by translators, rather than being translated from scratch, creating greater efficiencies in the translation workflow.
The GlobalSight connector to the Microsoft Translator service was built using the translation service’s APIs, and replicating workflow between the two systems. This connection is in-line with the development of the GlobalSight open-source product as a flexible, extensible and open translation platform, allowing for the use of different plug-ins to enable more efficient and consistent translations.
“The team is extremely pleased to see Welocalize making our MT service easily accessible to users of the GlobalSight translation platform, and I strongly believe that the elegant integration of TM and MT services provided here is a significant aid to translators and translation managers,” said Chris Wendt, Group Program Manager for Microsoft Translator. “ This integration opens up new scenarios of using machine translation in the translation workflow, and it makes optimal use of the strengths of the Microsoft Translator engine and API.“
