Experience at ATC Conference 2013 in London
by Lyn Carroll
This year’s Association of Translation Companies (ATC) conference took place at Chelsea Football Club in London, September 26-27. Welocalize Senior Director of Global Vendor Management, Lyn Carroll, spoke on the topic of “Promoting Productive Relations with Sub-Contractors and Integrating them with the Home-Team”.
Lyn’s presentation focused on the shared destiny of LSPs and the vendor supply chain and how Welocalize integrates vendors in the global team to achieve common goals. Last year, Welocalize engaged more than 1,000 external vendors to translate 664,020,009 words into over 120 languages.
Here’s what Lyn thought of her first ATC conference…
This was my first time to attend the ATC Conference, so it was something of an “unknown quantity” for me. I was delighted to catch up with familiar faces from our key translation partners, as well as have the opportunity to meet and hear the views of new contacts. The keynote address by Hans Fenstermacher of GALA was a highpoint and set the tone for the day. Danilo Monaco of AranchoDoc gave a compelling presentation on team formation and motivation for SLVs and RMLVs. Jack Waley-Cohen shared some interesting insights on recruitment and capacity management.
I found the ATC conference to be a very valuable forum for translation companies, large and small, and individual freelancers to share experiences. I heard great feedback from those who took part in the “speed networking” sessions. These consisted of quick exchange of information in the form of elevator speeches, to get an idea of who can do what and identify opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration.
