For this client, Welocalize supports release cycles for 10 web-based and desktop applications in 40 languages, processing 3.8 million words annually.
To manage their active release schedule of 25 releases per year, all translations are processed using a Translation Management System (TMS). As the UI for software generally does not change too much from one release to the next, a TMS helps leverage translations from previous releases. In the past this work was managed using a commercial TMS, and recently Welocalize has helped the client migrate to our open-source GlobalSight platform, for greater flexibility and improved integration via web services.
In addition to translating the UI, Welocalize engineers support the entire localization build and QA phases, from file management via a CVS system, creation of localization builds using Perl scripting and UNIX commands, installation of builds on our client's proprietary development system, QA automation, functional testing and bug tracking/resolution. Since localization QA occurs in our client's build environment, Welocalize engineers have acquired in-depth knowledge of their tool for building the localized products. In fact, Welocalize is the only vendor with this expertise. In the case that the client experiences a shortage of engineering resources, Welocalize can quickly step in and manage the entire build and test execution to ensure that the localized products ship at the same time as the English products.
During a major release, Welocalize also provides scalability, flexibility and cost efficiency by leveraging our Hybrid Delivery ModelSM. By moving production work to our offices in China through client-specific training and managed pilots over a three month period, we have been able to expand our off-shore team to quickly ramp-up and accommodate our client’s peaks and troughs. In one case where little time was allocated for localization QA, Welocalize was able to complete testing for a web-based application in only two days! Having gained expertise in our client's processes and quality requirements, our offshore team now communicates directly with the on-shore client development teams.
