It is my pleasure to announce the expansion of our office in Japan
with the addition of Sunil Sadhwani, a pioneer in the localization industry
and an expert in the subtleties and nuances of localizing for the Japanese
market.
As our new General Manager of Welocalize Japan, Mr. Sadhwani will lead
the development of our expanded Japanese production unit dedicated to
supporting the needs of our customers. Our expansion of production capabilities
in Japan
is designed to facilitate communication with our customers’ in-country
Japanese offices and provide on-demand resources. Our customers’ need for
Japanese translation has been growing, and we are expanding in Japan
to meet their expectation for a strong, in-country capability. We look
forward to the growth of our Japanese office and are honored to have Sunil
on our team leading this effort.
Mr. Sadhwani, born and raised in Japan, brings over 15 years of
experience in the localization industry. He recently served as Director of
Sales and Marketing at TOIN Corp, one the largest MLVs in Japan. Prior
to his time at TOIN, Mr. Sadhwani founded his own translation company,
which he successfully developed into a leading Japanese localization company
and sold to ITP in 1999.

In today's
market, localization decisions for multinational companies are being driven
by offices in various parts of the world. By expanding our operation in Japan,
Welocalize will be able to more readily support both clients who make
decisions on the corporate level and those with decision-making in-country.
This hybrid
solution is very effective when it comes to localizing corporate websites
or e-learning content, for example. Some of the US-authored content does
not transfer well to a local market and must be revised to include
additional information that is applicable to the local end-user. This involves a mix of translation and
copywriting - often know as “transcreation” - where in-country linguists
both edit existing text and author new text. For the local subsidiaries,
this type of solution is often necessary as all international websites have
a specific target market and user, who may react differently to certain
style, content and even tone. In these cases, the ability to produce local
content and liaison directly with the customer’s in-country representatives
ensures a well-rounded solution serving the needs of all parties.
Welocalize Japan
will be focusing on translation, localization and linguistic quality
control. With a dedicated team of
project managers, engineers, QA specialists and translators, we plan on
building a strong local translation house while offering local customer
support on-demand.
We will also
work closely with our offices in China for engineering and DTP
solutions. We will be utilizing the unique Welocalize Hybrid Delivery ModelSM
to help clients deliver their products at a reduced cost and in a shorter
time frame, while securing both sales and market share.

In another GALA-sponsored session, CEO Smith

other entrepreneurs, Mr. Yewell will provide insight into the challenges
and benefits faced by a fast-growing company seeking to acquire market
share. He will disclose his vision and recommendations for maintaining a
