Coffey is the Senior Vice President Technology & Development at Welocalize, with responsibility for Global IT and software development and a client facing role with a team of Solutions Architects providing consulting services around the use of translation technologies and integration.
Derek joined Welocalize in 2008, following the acquisition of Transware, where he had worked since 2000. Prior to Welocalize, he held a number of technology roles in Transware, with responsibility for engineering and IT teams. When Transware acquired the GlobalSight Corporation in 2005, Derek led the team that repurposed the Ambassador TMS as an inhouse toolset. Following the decision to open source Ambassador as the GlobalSIght TMS in 2009, Derek has led the development of the product and works as GlobalSight Evangelist within the open source community.
With 22 years experience in the IT industry, Derek has worked in distribution, manufacturing and services, in a variety of roles including software development, database administration, systems administration and IT Management, and has consulted for organizations in the areas of Server technology, Database/Systems Design, Wide Area Networking and Telecommunications.
Managing Global teams has its challenges, and to make life a little easier, Derek relocated to the USA from Ireland in 2011, and lives in Newburyport, MA with his wife Amanda and two boys, Callum and Christian. Derek has adjusted to the new life in the USA quickly, and can be found spending summers boating on the lakes of New England, and winter with the family skiing.
Derek has a Diploma in Applications Programming, a Diploma in Structured Systems Analysis and Design from the Irish Management Institute, and a Bachelor of Science Honors degree in Information Technology and Business Management from Trinity College Dublin. Armed all these credentials, Derek is ready to take on the complicated world of the localization industry.
